POLICY
Mammoth Hospital is committed to supporting the local community by contracting with underserved minority businesses. Traditional underrepresented businesses will include small businesses, minority-owned business enterprises, women-owned business enterprises, disadvantaged and veteran-owned businesses.
PROCEDURE
A. Purchasing Department will participate with local initiatives in order to maintain awareness of resources offered by diversity suppliers.
B. Purchasing Department will encourage and support diversity suppliers to meet with strategic sourcing staff to review product/service specifications, and review supplier qualifications including licenses, certification and insurance requirements as appropriate.
C. Purchasing Department will develop a listing of local businesses who have certified as owned and/or operated by individuals or groups that are part of the traditionally underrepresented supplier community.
D. Purchasing Department will encourage departments to explore opportunities to include and utilize diversity suppliers to compete for business and from whom to obtain goods and services whenever possible. |
We work with Adventist health and our GPO to help guide us to vendors who can meet our needs. If they fit in this category and meet the needs of our providers and patients they are given priority. |
We encourage all purchasing agents to use the team at Adventist Health and Premier GPO to help with vendor selection. |
We are affiliated with Adventist Health. Due to our size and location we rely on the GPO to help us source diverse vendors that can fit our needs. |
We use our GPO to support organizations that certify. |

CommonSpirit Health is committed to providing access to business opportunities for women, ethnic minorities, veterans, and LGBTQ+ communities interested in providing business solutions to support our delivery of healthcare. We are guided by the best practices of our Supply Chain GPO priorities and committed to local and regional purchases where possible. Core to our mission is the advancing of health equity which includes addressing the social determinants of health utilizing tools of supply chain diversity, local economies, and environmental sustainability. |
CommonSpirit identifies diverse vendors through:
- Active Contract List identifying vendors contracted through our GPO, provided monthly.
- Diverse Vendor database available through a third party supplier diversity vendor.
- Vendor diversity self-identification by vendor during RFP and contracting process.
- Direct vendor input through CommonSpirit Diverse Vendor Intake Form.
- Additional vendor opportunity documentation provided by partners (i.e., distributors).
CommonSpirit Health is in the midst of implementing its Health Equity Blueprint for action and has developed a series of questions in which they ask and address with each vendor to establish vendor accountability towards Health Equity. The business questions are designed to create transparency and awareness by understanding how we are performing against the guidelines and expectations set within our policies. In addition, the process is designed to share expectations and accountability around supplier diversity and its impact on promoting diversity in suppliers and health equity. |
CommonSpirit Health's Chief Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Community Impact Officer regularly communicates with supply chain staff, raising awareness with regard to diversity spend, and an assigned resource has membership on several supplier diversity task forces. Language is included in direct vendor agreements, GPO contract supplemental addendums and within the vendor RFP process, allowing vendors to report diversity codes and submit certification documentation to our sourcing team and Chief Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Community Impact Office.
Our supply chain has developed a diversity strategy in which diverse vendors are validated through a third party supplier diversity partner using vendor information from our Enterprise Resource Planning system, allowing us to identify actionable areas of spend and implement policies, goals and practices to increase our diverse procurement. |
Through our GPO processes vendors are notified of opportunities within various categories of spend considered actionable for diverse vendors. We have plans to define in CY22, categories of actionable spend in supply chain and purchased services, which will support greater outreach to those interested in our business opportunities. |
Rosalyn Carpenter, CommonSpirit Senior Vice President, Diversity and Inclusion, serves on several advisory boards and committees, including the Catholic Health Association's Special Committee to the Board on Diversity and Health Equity, and the Press Ganey Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Client Advisory Council. Additionally, CommonSpirit Health is a member of the Premier, Inc. member-led cohort that developed the recently announced Supplier Diversity Pledge, in which we seek to close supplier diversity gaps within our supply chain and encourage other member organizations to do the same. |

Marin Health is committed to providing equal opportunity to all qualified diverse suppliers to compete and participate in the sourcing and procurement process of our healthcare organization. Creating an inclusive supply chain that recognizes and values diverse owned businesses strengthens the relationships with the communities we serve.
Marin Health is a member of both Adventist Health Purchasing Group, and with Premier Group Purchasing Organization. Both have their own diversity statements as well. |
Our supplier diversity program is designed to contribute to the economic health and reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. It includes, but is not limited to:
Implementing a collaborative supplier diversity program to meet Marin Health existing and future vendor needs.
Identifying contracting opportunities in which we ensure that diverse businesses could bid competitively while following the Marin Health vendor process.
Identifying diverse businesses to bid on opportunities throughout the company.
Marin Health Supply Chain team sources all goods and services for Marin Health Medical Center. Our sourcing department identifies qualified suppliers for bid opportunities and works with those suppliers to become successful Supply Chain partners. Vendors with products and services that are potentially suitable for Marin Health are encouraged to complete a vendor profile to be considered for current and future projects. |
Marin Health procurement team will always seek out diverse suppliers to participate in the contracting process.
Promotes innovation through the introduction of new products and services.
Provides alternative to the GPO solutions to procure products and services.
Drives competition between current vendor community and new vendors. |
When contracting, our contract team will seek out diverse suppliers and request this information when registering as a new vendor. |
We currently do not have a policy in place that support organizations that promote diversity supplier businesses. In the next few months, we plan on working on developing a policy to support these organizations. |

It is important to have a supplier base that mirrors our workplace and the communities we serve. Pipeline Health LA is committed to developing mutually beneficial relationships with certified diversity businesses. Diverse businesses are provided opportunity to participate as partners and/or suppliers of goods/services to Pipeline Health LA whenever feasible. |
Working with our new Group Purchasing Organization (GPO), Premier Inc., to encourage inclusion of more Diversity vendors in their bidding/contracting processes as this is the primary source of our vendor selections.
Additionally, include a tag line on procurement staff email signatures that notify vendors we support the California Diversity initiative and to contact us if they feel they could fall into that category for inclusion in future bids or business projects. Planning to add a link to our external website about supplier diversity and how we can be contacted in Supply Chain if they are a Certified Diversity Business so that they might qualify for inclusion in future bids. |
Meet with all system procurement staff about the AB 962 initiative and how to communicate a potential Diversity Supplier to upper management. This will be an ongoing process. |
See additional considerations as noted above in Outreach & Communication. Considering engaging local Chambers of Commerce and/or other community-based business development resources via our corporate Marketing/Business Development dept. |
We would fully support local, regional, or nationally recognized organizations/commerce groups that certify Diverse Suppliers and like businesses. |

Memorial Health Services d/b/a MemorialCare has established a diversity supplier program to include diversity supplier offerings in purchasing and business planning recommendations, and to promote competitive procurement activities. The program creates a mutually beneficial relationship while establishing structure, awareness and support that encourages review and consideration of diverse suppliers to support our local communities, increase the strength and sustainability of the healthcare provider supply chain, and intentionally include small business or local innovation opportunities. |
We direct potential healthcare provider industry diversity suppliers to register with and provide supply category and diversity certification information to Diversity Information Resources (DIR) at diversityinforesources.com and to group purchase organization (GPO) Vizient at vizientinc.com for consideration at MemorialCare. |
Tools and services provided by these organizations support our GPO and local contract category sourcing plans. |
Diversity supplier program education, tools, and support are provided to our centralized Purchasing and Strategic Sourcing teams. |

Maintain procurement guidelines for the use of diverse suppliers/vendors to be used by all employees responsible for purchasing. It is our policy to prefer to use a qualified diverse supplier whenever one is both available and able to meet our business terms and conditions at a competitive price. We are not obligated to use a diverse supplier over others when they are not able to meet the business requirements including pricing. |

Methodist Hospital of Southern California has an established policy to seek out minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran business enterprises to become suppliers as part of our efforts to meet the requirements of California Assembly Bill 962 and the Office of Statewide Health Planning & Development (OSHPD).
The hospital maintains a data base of qualifying vendors who we reach out to as part of our procurement efforts on new and ongoing projects when appropriate. Please know that we have no specific quotas established for procurement. |
In addition to keeping a database of interested suppliers, requests for proposals clearly state that Methodist is interested in doing business with suppliers who meet the criteria of AB962 as a minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran business enterprise. |
All employees have been educated on Methodist's Supplier Diversity Policy including reaching out to suppliers who have been included in its database of business enterprises who meet the definitions of AB962. |
Outreach and communication is primarily through Methodist's website and through statements provided in requests for proposal (RFP). As public databases of qualifying suppliers becomes available, Methodist intends to proactively invite qualifying business enterprises listed. |

Our organization does not actively seek out businesses of the above listed groups, we base our business selections off of our GPO supplier, and during shortages off of whatever suppliers we are able to get what we need. |
We only encourage our employees to seek out companies that are on our contracts, we don't have a policy nor do we actively seek our suppliers with these classification. |
We don't conduct outreach to these groups. Our hospital is happy to purchase products from any GPO compliant business but expect those businesses to become GPO compliant and reach out to us. |

We as a company don't actively seek suppliers of any kind, but rather rely on our GPO to provide us with quality goods through contracts with different vendors. We'd be more than happy to purchase from organizations that fit within the mold listed in the previous questions. However we don't have the bandwidth as a small hospital to reach out to suppliers directly. We like the idea of this reporting, but think it would be more beneficial for all parties if instead of hospitals, large medical suppliers (such as Medline) and GPO's were to report this information, it might create a more meaningful impact for all parties involved. |
