CommonSpirit Health |

12/31/2021 |
CommonSpirit Health is committed to providing access to business opportunities for women, ethnic minorities, veterans, and LGBTQ+ communities interested in providing business solutions to support our delivery of healthcare. We are guided by the best practices of our Supply Chain GPO priorities and committed to local and regional purchases where possible. Core to our mission is the advancing of health equity which includes addressing the social determinants of health utilizing tools of supply chain diversity, local economies, and environmental sustainability. |
CommonSpirit identifies diverse vendors through:
- Active Contract List identifying vendors contracted through our GPO, provided monthly.
- Diverse Vendor database available through a third party supplier diversity vendor.
- Vendor diversity self-identification by vendor during RFP and contracting process.
- Direct vendor input through CommonSpirit Diverse Vendor Intake Form.
- Additional vendor opportunity documentation provided by partners (i.e., distributors).
CommonSpirit Health is in the midst of implementing its Health Equity Blueprint for action and has developed a series of questions in which they ask and address with each vendor to establish vendor accountability towards Health Equity. The business questions are designed to create transparency and awareness by understanding how we are performing against the guidelines and expectations set within our policies. In addition, the process is designed to share expectations and accountability around supplier diversity and its impact on promoting diversity in suppliers and health equity. |
CommonSpirit Health's Chief Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Community Impact Officer regularly communicates with supply chain staff, raising awareness with regard to diversity spend, and an assigned resource has membership on several supplier diversity task forces. Language is included in direct vendor agreements, GPO contract supplemental addendums and within the vendor RFP process, allowing vendors to report diversity codes and submit certification documentation to our sourcing team and Chief Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Community Impact Office.
Our supply chain has developed a diversity strategy in which diverse vendors are validated through a third party supplier diversity partner using vendor information from our Enterprise Resource Planning system, allowing us to identify actionable areas of spend and implement policies, goals and practices to increase our diverse procurement. |
Through our GPO processes vendors are notified of opportunities within various categories of spend considered actionable for diverse vendors. We have plans to define in CY22, categories of actionable spend in supply chain and purchased services, which will support greater outreach to those interested in our business opportunities. |
Rosalyn Carpenter, CommonSpirit Senior Vice President, Diversity and Inclusion, serves on several advisory boards and committees, including the Catholic Health Association's Special Committee to the Board on Diversity and Health Equity, and the Press Ganey Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Client Advisory Council. Additionally, CommonSpirit Health is a member of the Premier, Inc. member-led cohort that developed the recently announced Supplier Diversity Pledge, in which we seek to close supplier diversity gaps within our supply chain and encourage other member organizations to do the same. |

The organization is committed to supporting the local community by contracting with underserved minority businesses. These businesses include small businesses, minority-owned business, women-owned business and veteran-owned business. |
Our national group purchasing organization (Premier) contracts on our behalf with many diverse suppliers. That contract information is then published along with the suppliers diversity type. |
Through our contract database with our group purchasing organization, our employees are able to search specifically for products available from diverse suppliers. |
In 2015, Banner Health established a Diversity and Inclusion department. This group continues the quest to establish a culturally rich workplace for Banner. |
As a nonprofit Banner Health provides a tremendous amount of community benefit through its many services and it is in this spirit that their supply chain team has made it a priority to build and develop an even more robust diversity program in its strategic sourcing efforts. The supply chain team has developed a program that has engaged Executive Sponsorship and Chairman of the Board level of the organization allowing them to invest in this program and its resources. Under the leadership of Banner Healths Supply Chain Services, the Supplier Diversity initiative is designed to provide all suppliers, including women and minority-owned, equal access to procurement and contracting opportunities within the organization. Supplier diversity and inclusion in the sourcing process ensures Banner Health maximizes its effort to seek the most talented, innovative, experienced and cost-competitive suppliers available. Doing business with diverse suppliers makes good business sense and supports economic growth in the local communities Banner Health serves. The quality and recognition of the Banner Health brand will increase as we implement the Supplier Diversity Program. |

We are part of a GPO know as HealthTrust Purchasing Group. When a diverse supplier registers through HPG via the Prospective Supplier Profile, they will have an opportunity to indicate that they are a diverse supplier. When a bid opportunity arises, this information is passed on to the appropriate sourcing personnel. |
This information is displayed on the HPG member portal when researching products/services. |
Diverse suppliers are identified to compete for awards in a variety of ways. HealthTrust reviews Prospective Supplier Profiles (PSP) submitted via its website; networking through local, regional and national trade shows held by various advocacy groups; member, employee and other supplier referrals. |
Beyond national certification from a valid 3rd party resource, diverse suppliers are held to the same standards as other suppliers when being considered for an award with HealthTrust. Diverse suppliers are expected to add value, meet quality standards mandated by the appropriate advisory boards, provide products and services in a timely manner, maintain a good track record and be price competitive.
Vendors outside of our GPO is not required to be certified. |

Bakersfield Behavioral Healthcare Hospital does not currently have a Diversity Policy Statement. At both the hospital governance level (Board of Trustees) and the executive management level we continually evaluate our mission, vision, values, and policy statements. As part of this review, we will be taking the development of a facility supplier diversity policy statement under consideration. |
Bakersfield Behavioral Healthcare Hospital does not actively seek out minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran business enterprises to become potential suppliers. Currently we welcome all suppliers regardless of ownership - we do not seek out or give preference to any specific category of ownership. Our selection process for suppliers is based on hospital needs, product quality, product pricing, and vendor performance (i.e. how fast we can get the needed supplies, dependability during crisis, etc.). We treat every supplier equally, the same way, regardless of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, etc. |
At this time Bakersfield Behavioral Healthcare Hospital does not actively seek out potential suppliers based on diversity qualifications. Our hospital chooses vendors based on price and availability of the service or supply needed who meet our minimum standards as required. In addition, our hospital is part of a Group Purchasing Organization and as such our first contact for new suppliers are with those within the Group Purchasing Organization who provide such services or supplies. |
Bakersfield Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is committed to fostering and cultivating a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We embrace our diverse community of staff, patients, and our surrounding community. We celebrate our unique differences with our business partners.
Our environment values differences in age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, veteran status, and other characteristics to fulfill our mission of providing quality behavioral health care. To achieve this, we support equal employment opportunities and partnering opportunities with our hospital.
Our collective sum of individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, innovation, self-expression, unique capabilities, and talent represents our culture, achievements, and who we are as an organization. |
Bakersfield Behavioral Healthcare Hospital does not currently have a policy to address actively seeking out potential suppliers based on diversity qualifications. |
