It is vital to have supplier base that mirrors our workplace and the communities we serve. Pipeline Health LA is committed to developing mutually beneficial relationships with certified diversity businesses. Diverse businesses are provided opportunity to participate as partners and/or suppliers of goods/services to Pipeline Health LA whenever feasible. |
Working with our new Group Purchasing Organization (GPO), Premier Inc., to encourage inclusion of more Diversity vendors in their bidding/contracting processes as this is the primary source of our vendor selections.
Additionally, include a tag line on procurement staff email signatures that notify vendors we support the California Diversity initiative and to contact us if they feel they could fall into that category for inclusion in future bids or business projects. Planning to add a link to our external website about supplier diversity and how we can be contacted in Supply Chain if they are a Certified Diversity Business so that they might qualify for inclusion in future bids. |
Meet with all system procurement staff about the AB 962 initiative and how to communicate a potential Diversity Supplier to upper management. This will be an ongoing process. |
See additional considerations as noted above in Outreach & Communication. Considering engaging local Chambers of Commerce and/or other community based business development resources via our corporate Marketing/Business Development dept. |
We would fully support local, regional, or nationally recognized organizations/commerce groups that certify Diverse Suppliers and like businesses. |

12/31/2021 |
Consistent with our Corporate Vision Statement, "We are an integral partner in elevating our communities' health," Emanate Health strives to provide business opportunities for diverse suppliers, including ethnic minority-, women-, veteran and LGBTQ-owned companies that represent and mirror the communities we serve not only clinically, but economically as well.
It is the policy of Emanate Health to elevate and support relationships within the communities served through the development, inclusion, and utilization of certified minority, women, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ), and disabled veteran business enterprises, that exhibit a high standard of excellence, whenever feasible.
Whenever practicable, Emanate Health will request from new and prospective suppliers, information on whether they qualify and/or are certified under small and diverse business supplier categories per established Emanate Health sourcing practices, request for information (RFI), and request for proposals (RFP). Emanate Health will also encourage our primary suppliers and distributors to provide opportunities to small and diverse suppliers and manufacturers for the products ordered through them. |
Qualifying diverse suppliers are able to register with our Group Purchasing Organization (GPO), in order to obtain preferred vendor status. The Vizient Catalog contains more than 200 national agreements with certified diverse supplier and small businesses. Emanate Health can access this catalog for contracts with community based small and diverse suppliers.
In addition, Emanate Health is a member of the West Coast Purchasing Coalition (WCPC) and actively participates in discussions and initiatives surrounding the utilization and consideration of diverse suppliers. |
The Emanate Health purchasing organization currently relies primarily on its established vendors and purchasing contracts through our membership with Vizient, on whom Emanate relies to properly vet and certify and enter into business relationships for the benefit of its members.
Members of the procurement team also serve on the Construction Bid Committee and have the opportunity to encourage the use of diverse suppliers during the RFP process for larger procurement and service projects for departments like Plant Operations, Planning, Building and Construction and Information Services, which are less likely to be channeled through our GPO or primary distributorship (Medline).
We are currently working with the Information Technology (IT) department to further modify the Vendor Maintenance screens in our Materials Management Information System (MMIS) in order to capture additional diverse supplier qualifications and enhance Emanate's ability to identify diverse suppliers in the procurement process and evaluate spend data. |
In lieu of conducting proactive outreach and communication, Emanate Health directs solicitations by qualifying diverse companies to register with Vizient, our GPO, to be considered as potential suppliers. |
Emanate Health is a member of the Vizient GPO, who assists with contracting for a significant portion of our procurement portfolio. Their Diversity Policy Statement is as follows:
Vizient Supplier Diversity Statement - "Supporting the growth and development of diverse and small business promotes economic sustainability in all of our communities through access to jobs, housing, health care and more. Members are seeking opportunities to shift supply and service spend to local suppliers in order to help promote job growth and economic improvement, which will ultimately help improve the health of the patient population.
Vizient works with organizations that support minority-, women-, LGBT-, disability- and veteran owned enterprises. Through them, certified diverse suppliers can access learning, mentoring, potential capital opportunities and other resources to help attain sustainable growth, resulting in healthier and stronger communities."
In addition, Emanate Health is a member of the Vizient sponsored West Coast Purchasing Coalition (WCPC) and actively participates in discussions and initiatives surrounding the utilization and consideration of diverse suppliers. |

"Tenet Healthcare is an equity member of HealthTrust Group Purchasing Organization. As an equity member, and considering the vast majority of Tenet's product procurement, and a large portion of purchased service procurement are performed utilizing HealthTrust contracted vendors, Tenet supports and leverages HealthTrust's Supplier Diversity Program.
The HealthTrust Supplier Diversity Program is primarily focused on building relationships with and seeking contractual opportunities for minority-owned businesses, women-owned businesses, veteran-owned small businesses and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses whose ownership is certified, respectively, by the National Minority Supplier Development Council, the Women's Business Enterprise National Council, and/or the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.
Most vendor selections, including sourcing and procurement activities, are performed at the system-level, with minimal hospital-level sourcing, contracting and purchasing activities. " |
As part of the Supplier Diversity Program, a Supplier Diversity Council was created in 2019. The mission of the Council is to ensure HealthTrust and its members maximize their supplier diversity initiatives by developing industry best practices and promoting diverse supplier opportunities thereby strengthening the bond between our members and the communities they serve. The goals of the Council are to 1) Establish supplier diversity best practices within HealthTrust and its members 2) Communicate and identify diverse supplier sourcing opportunities; 3) Align HealthTrusts diversity goals with our members; and 4) Increase utilization of diverse suppliers within members supply chain. The Council meets monthly to discuss opportunities and objectives. |
Vendor selection decisions are made at the corporate level during the Sourcing activities, with Procurement executing purchases with those selected vendors. |
HealthTrust actively supports, financially and/or through participation, various national organizations such as the National Minority Supplier Development Council, the Womens Business Enterprise National Council, the HealthCare Supplier Diversity Alliance, and the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. |
All diversity suppliers are required to submit a certification from one of the organizations listed above, validating their diverse status. |

Qualifying diverse suppliers are able to register with Vizient, our Group Purchasing Organization (GPO), in order to obtain preferred vendor status. The Vizient catalog contains more than 200 national agreements with certified diverse suppliers and small businesses.
Members of the procurement team also serve on the Construction Bid Committee and have the opportunity to encourage the use of diverse suppliers during the RFP process for larger procurement and service projects for departments like Plant Operations, Planning, Building and Construction and Information Services, which are less likely to be channeled through our GPO or primary distributor (Medline).
Members are seeking opportunities to shift supply and service spend to local suppliers in order to help promote growth and economic improvement, which will ultimately help improve the health of the patient population.
