WHEREAS, National Caregivers Day was founded by the Providers Association for Home Health and Hospice Agencies in 2015; and

WHEREAS, National Caregivers Day was first observed on February 19, 2016, and is annually observed on the third Friday in February; and

WHEREAS, Professional caregivers, who number nearly 4,600,000 in the United States, and family caregivers who are estimated at 53,000,000 by the American Association of Retired Persons, are lifelines to millions of Americans who need assistance with medical, personal, and end-of-life care; and

WHEREAS, The home care industry is also among the fastest growing health care industries in our state and nation that is projected to grow at a breathtaking pace through 2031; and

WHEREAS, According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in the home health care sector will grow by 21 percent, adding 711,700 jobs each year on average over the next eight years; and

WHEREAS, Caregiving is the ultimate form of love and respect; and

WHEREAS, Our state and the nation should acknowledge the important role of caregivers in fulfilling an individual’s desire to remain at home and demonstrate our support and gratitude to these caregivers; and

WHEREAS, Home care workers allow families to stay together at home with safety and dignity as individuals age; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That the Senate recognizes February 21, 2025, as National Caregivers Day in California to recognize caregivers across the United States whose compassionate care enables millions of Americans who are aging or who have a disability to remain as independent as possible in their own homes; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
