				Existing law requires the State Department of Education, on or before March 1, 2025, to provide a report to the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Governor, and the Legislature on the number and types of reports that school districts, county offices of education, and charter schools are required to annually submit. Existing law requires the report to include, among other things, the purpose of each report and recommendations for which reports can be consolidated, eliminated, or truncated, as provided. Existing law repeals these provisions on January 1, 2026.

			<html:p>This bill would extend the repeal date of the above-described
			 reporting requirements by one year, to instead be January 1, 2027.</html:p>

				Existing law requires the State Board of Education to, on or before January 31, 2027, adopt an IDEA Addendum relating to improvements in services for individuals with exceptional needs, as specified. Existing law requires certain school districts, charter schools, and county offices of education identified by the department, as provided, to complete the IDEA Addendum and to undertake certain activities related to the addendum on or before July 1, 2027.

								(a)
								<html:span class="EnSpace"/>
								The department shall, on or before March 1, 2025, and in compliance with Section 9795 of the Government Code, provide a report to the Superintendent, the Governor, and the Legislature on the number and types of reports that local educational agencies are required to annually submit. The report shall include all of the following:
							</html:p>
							<html:p>
								(1)
								<html:span class="EnSpace"/>
								Information on each type of report, including if the report is required by a particular program.
							</html:p>
							<html:p>
								(2)
								<html:span class="EnSpace"/>
								The purpose of each report.
							</html:p>
							<html:p>
								(3)
								<html:span class="EnSpace"/>
								Recommendations for both of the following:
							</html:p>
							<html:p>
								(A)
								<html:span class="EnSpace"/>
								Which reports can be consolidated or eliminated to
						reduce the total number of reports local educational agencies are required to annually complete.
							</html:p>
							<html:p>
								(B)
								<html:span class="EnSpace"/>
								Which reports can be truncated to shorten any reports local educational agencies are required to annually complete.
							</html:p>
							<html:p>
								(C)
								<html:span class="EnSpace"/>
								In determining recommendations pursuant to subparagraphs (A) and (B), the department shall seek voluntary input from a diverse array of local educational agencies that vary in size, type, geographic location, and pupil and staff demographics.
							</html:p>
							<html:p>
								(b)
								<html:span class="EnSpace"/>
								Within 30 days of receiving a report from the department pursuant to subdivision (a), the Assembly and Senate Education committees, the Assembly Committee on Budget, the Senate Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review, and any other relevant subcommittees are encouraged to hold a hearing to allow for the Superintendent to present the report.

								(c)
								<html:span class="EnSpace"/>
								For purposes of this section, “local educational agency” means a school district, county office of education, or charter school.
							</html:p>
							<html:p>
								(d)
								<html:span class="EnSpace"/>
								It is the intent of the Legislature that the information collected for reports pursuant to this section will help alleviate future burdens and costs on local educational agencies.
							</html:p>
							<html:p>
								(e)
								<html:span class="EnSpace"/>
								This section shall remain in effect only until January 1, 2027, and as of that date is repealed.
