The Public Employees’ Retirement Law (PERL) creates the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS), which provides a defined benefit to its members based on age at retirement, service credit, and final compensation, and prescribes the rate of employer contributions to PERS. PERL requires time during which a member is excused from performance of their duties and for which they receive compensation in an amount less than full compensation to be credited as service, as specified. |
