<html:p>WHEREAS, Tomatoes are one of the most widely produced and consumed agricultural commodities in the United States and are a critical component of the domestic food supply; and</html:p>

</ns0:Whereas>
<ns0:Whereas id="id_6A161C3A-3CE2-4F48-B810-BBC9C2148E4C">
<ns0:Content>
<html:p>WHEREAS, California is the national leader in tomato production, producing approximately 95 percent of the nation’s processing tomatoes and accounting for roughly one-third of global processing tomato production, making the state central to both national and international food systems; and</html:p>

</ns0:Whereas>

<html:p>WHEREAS, California’s processing tomato industry annually produces more than 10,000,000 tons of tomatoes, generating billions of dollars in economic activity and supporting thousands of jobs across farming, food processing, transportation, and related sectors; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, The majority of California’s tomato production occurs in the Central Valley, where climate conditions, agricultural infrastructure, and water-efficient irrigation systems support large-scale production; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, Senate District 4 includes the Counties of Merced, Stanislaus, and Madera, which are among California’s tomato-producing counties; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, Tomato production in California begins in the spring, with planting occurring in late winter and early spring, and harvest extending through the summer and early fall; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, National Tomato Month is observed in October, near the end of the harvest season, and recognizing California Tomato Month in May reflects the start of tomato production in the state; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, California’s tomato industry reflects long-standing investments in agricultural research, sustainability practices, and water-efficient production methods that continue to strengthen the state’s agricultural economy; now, therefore, be it</html:p>

<html:i>Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring,</html:i>
That the Legislature recognizes the month of May 2026 as California Tomato Month to acknowledge the beginning of the state’s tomato growing and harvest season and California’s leadership in tomato production; and be it further
