<html:p>Existing law, the Gambling Control Act, provides for the licensure and regulation of various legalized gambling activities and establishments by the California Gambling Control Commission and the investigation and enforcement of those activities and establishments by the Department of Justice. Under existing law, the commission consists of 5 members appointed by the Governor, subject to confirmation by the Senate. Existing law authorizes the Governor to remove any member of the commission for cause, as specified.</html:p>
<html:p>This bill would additionally require the Governor to notify the Senate and Assembly Committees on Governmental Organization of the removal of any member of the commission.</html:p>

(a)
<html:span class="EnSpace"/>
The term of office of each member of the commission is four years.
</html:p>
<html:p>
(b)
<html:span class="EnSpace"/>
The Governor shall appoint the members of the commission, subject to confirmation by the Senate, and shall designate one member to serve as chairperson.
Vacancies shall be filled within 60 days of the date of the vacancy by the Governor, subject to confirmation by the Senate.

<html:span class="EnSpace"/>
The Governor may remove a member of the commission for incompetence, neglect of duty, or corruption upon first giving the member a copy of the charges and an opportunity to be heard. The Governor shall notify the Senate and Assembly Committees on Governmental Organization of the removal of a member of the
commission.
