<html:p>WHEREAS, California as a state is committed towards promoting diversity and gender equality by ensuring that all genders have equal opportunity in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM); and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, Throughout history, women have made extensive contributions in the areas of STEM; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, Women are underrepresented in STEM-related fields, comprising approximately 35 percent of workers in STEM-related jobs, despite advancements in technology which have resulted in an increased number of STEM jobs overall; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, Female scientists and engineers have occupations concentrated in the fields of life, physical, and social sciences (48.6 percent) with relatively low shares in architecture and engineering (17.2 percent) and computer and mathematical (26 percent) occupations as compared to men; and</html:p>
