The measure would request that the Department of Transportation determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, to erect those signs.</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, On July 2, 1960, Douglas “Doug” LaMalfa was born in Oroville, California; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, In 1978, Mr. LaMalfa graduated from Biggs High School and, in 1982, he received his bachelor’s degree in agricultural business from the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, Mr. LaMalfa was a fourth-generation rice farmer and businessman; and </html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, In 2002, Mr. LaMalfa successfully ran for the California State Assembly, beginning his long tenure of public service; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, Mr. LaMalfa served in the California State Assembly and California State Senate before being elected in 2012 to the United States House of Representatives; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, From 2013 to 2026, inclusive, Congressman LaMalfa served California’s First Congressional District and was a strong advocate for northern California’s agriculture- and natural resources-based economy; and </html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, Congressman LaMalfa was unanimously elected as chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus, one of the largest membership organizations in Congress, and he fought for farms, businesses, and rural priorities; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, Congressman LaMalfa was deeply rooted in his faith and values, and he led with humility, kindness, and authenticity; and </html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, Congressman LaMalfa was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he and his wife, Jill, raised their four children on their family farm in Richvale, California, teaching them to work hard and value community; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, On January 6, 2026, Congressman LaMalfa tragically passed away, and he left behind his wife, Jill, their four children, Kyle, Allison, Sophia, and Natalie, his grandchild, two sisters, and a host of cousins, extended family, and dear friends; and</html:p>
