The measure would request that the Department of Transportation determine the cost of appropriate signs showing this special designation and, upon receiving donations from nonstate sources sufficient to cover the cost, to erect those signs.</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, On February 19, 1990, at approximately 10:40 a.m., Long Valley Fire Protection District Captain Vidar Anderson, along with 50 other first responders, responded to an emergency call regarding teenagers who had fallen through the ice at Convict Lake; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, Captain Anderson was one of four local responders who fell through the ice in an attempt to rescue the teenagers; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, In his heroic effort to save the teenagers, Captain Anderson also saved the life of his fellow first responder, Long Valley Fire Protection District Chief Chris Baitx; and</html:p>

<html:p>WHEREAS, Tragically, Captain Anderson succumbed to the cold, giving his life in the line of duty while attempting to save others during this tragic event; and</html:p>
