<html:p>Existing law, the Mello-Granlund Older Californians Act, establishes the California Department of Aging and sets forth the state’s commitment to, among others, older adults. Existing law makes it a misdemeanor or a felony for a caretaker of an elder or dependent adult to violate any law proscribing theft, embezzlement, forgery, fraud, or identity theft with respect to the property or personal identifying information of that elder or
dependent adult, as specified.</html:p>
<html:p>This bill would require the department to contract out a study on theft from elders and dependent adults in long-term care facilities, as specified. The bill would require the department to submit the report to the Legislature no later than January 1, 2029, and would repeal that provision on January 1, 2033.</html:p>
