<html:p>Existing law authorizes local authorities to adopt rules and regulations by ordinance or resolution closing to vehicular traffic that portion of any street or highway crossing or dividing any school ground or grounds when necessary for the protection of persons attending the school or school grounds. Under existing law, an ordinance or resolution pursuant to this authority is not effective until after appropriate notice signs are posted along the street or highway affected, or, in the case of state highways, after the ordinance or resolution is approved by the Department of Transportation, as specified.</html:p>
<html:p>This bill would make nonsubstantive changes to this authorization.</html:p>

<html:p>A local authority may adopt rules and regulations by ordinance or resolution closing to vehicular traffic that portion of any street or highway crossing or dividing any school ground or grounds when in the opinion of the legislative body having jurisdiction that the closing is necessary for the protection of persons attending
the school or school grounds. The closing to vehicular traffic may be limited to the hours and days as the legislative body may specify. No ordinance or resolution pursuant to this section shall be effective until appropriate signs giving notice thereof are posted along the street or highway affected, nor, in the case of state highways, until
the ordinance or resolution is approved by the Department of Transportation.</html:p>
